The Doors of Perception

The Doors of Perception is a multimedia contemporary dance production inspired by Aldous Huxley’s 1954 book of the same name. In this essay, Huxley describes his experience of taking mescaline. It is a vivid account of how ordinary objects, colours and even his own sense of self were transformed when the mind’s usual filters fell away. The performance translates Huxley’s exploration of perception and consciousness into 16 choreographic scenes, combining contemporary dance, original music, innovative lighting technologies and video projections. The production is designed to immerse audiences in altered states of perception through a visually complex and multilayered performance in which movement, music and visual elements are synchronized to form an integrated stage composition.
